Letter from the President, Summer 2010
Dear members,
Congratulations on the success of the Jules Bauer Award Show and to everyone who participated. The reception was well attended and gave us a chance to speak with one another and enjoy a relaxing evening. You should be
proud of another great show. Sara Furlong and
her volunteers who hung the show gave the
exhibit its usual classic style and impeccable
presentation. Both receiving and processing went smoothly also.
Our next show is our biggest event of the year,
our 95th Annual Fall Juried Show on Sept. 25th. The prospectus will be available online as
the date gets closer. Please consider volunteering. We need people to work at the receiving desk, people to handle the art, and volunteers to set up and clean up at the reception. Please contact one of us if you are interested. As you may not know, your membership requires you to volunteer at least
once during the course of the year so if you
haven’t fulfilled your obligation, now is a good
time to do so. We need your help, even for an
hour or two.
One of the things that make the Juried Show a
success is the support we get from the community. Donations have been steadily declining for the past few years. On the homepage of the website is a donor letter you can download. Please look it over and consider presenting it to the art supply stores, restaurants,
or local businesses you patronize. The letter is simply written, informative, and can be effective in acquiring gift certificates or merchandise we can use as prizes. Thank you
for your cooperation.
Our show in Chelsea is becoming an annual event. I am glad about the enthusiasm everyone
has shown in making it happen. The spots, however, were filled right away once we announced we would be having the show again. If you didn’t sign up perhaps you will get another chance to participate in the future. As you may not know, participating in the show
requires you to volunteer, either in receiving the work, hanging the work, helping at the reception, removing the work, or helping to spackle and paint the gallery after the show closes. The video of last year’s show is still posted on our homepage if you are interested in
viewing it.
As always, thank you for allowing me to be
your president. I am glad to be able to work with all of you. I have always believed that art and life are inextricably connected. Having talent is not enough unless it is backed up with hard work. The New Rochelle Art Association, as our founding fathers have stated, has a mission to serve the community and increase the awareness of the visual arts. Our 100 year anniversary is fast approaching. Let’s hope that the original members who started the NRAA would be pleased to see that their mission, vibrant spirit, and artistic dedication has survived and prospered over the years with
us. I wish everyone a happy and healthy Summer season and I will see you in the Fall on September 25th.
– Jesse Sanchez, President NRAA

"Orange Juiced" Art Show
The members of the New Rochelle Art Association are invited to participate in a themed exhibit at The Claude Gallery in Eastchester, NY. The theme of the show, since it is being held during the autumnal season, is the color orange. All artwork will be judged according to the appropriateness to the theme, execution, and creativity. The show will take place from Oct. 2 -28, 2010. Submission deadline is August 1. You may submit 1-2 pieces. Submission guidelines, size limitations, dates for drop-off and pick up, and other info can be downloaded here or on the link on the homepage. Lisa Post will be curating the show. She can be reached at Dziner6339@aol.com.
